General comments and feedback are welcome – specific stuff about changes to the service or errors on the map can you put them here thanks!
Hello there,
As a regular user of the Malta bus service, I am was impressed with your map.
Just one little point re route 54 which comes through the area where I live (Balzan).
It does not travel via Hamrun and Fleur-de-Lys to Valletta, but via Psaila St and the Regional Road – which is stupid as all other routes starting with 5 go via Hamrun.
But I see you dealt with that point re all of these new changes as the principle of grouping the routes (all buses starting with 5 go to Hamrun) is starting to fall apart.
Keep up the good work.
Gary
thanks gary for letting me know – not what the arriva website says so thats very helpful ! what does it do from the regional road? south onto the hamrun bypass and in on december 13th, or north and in through pieta?
cheers
The 54 goes via the the hamrun bypass and december 13th, which I agree seems silly as Hamrun would have been much more logical.
Two other modifications that you may wish to make in your revamp:
– the X2 does a full loop around St.Julians & Sliema, like the 202 does;
– the 91 does not currently go around St.Thomas’ Bay (it was an error on the original Arriva Map) – however I think I read somewhere that this was going to be introduced in the November change.
Keep up the good work.
Phil G
thanks for this phil – will take a look tomorrow – much appreciated
Hello again,
I see Phil clarified the point about route 54. It would make sense that this bus is routed through parts of Santa Venera & Hamrun as currently these areas are denied a bus service since the feeder routes were withdrawn on the 2 Oct. The bus stops are there, just no buses.
However, there are some more changes (112 in total ) coming on the 6 November which I think will keep you very busy! There will be a new route 55 for Lija and Balzan (my area) and I will be interested to see if they route this and the 54 via Hamrun if they keep in line with the other 5x buses.
Wow, 112 changes ! I knew there were further modifications planned for November but not that many !. Lets hope that they solve the reliability and capacity problems that Arriva issue decent publicity for the whole network at the same time .
Phil G.
Thanks to all the helpful feedback, I’ve created a new top level page called “corrections” – As things change Id like to make sure any warnings over bits of the map which are wrong are in one place so that I don’t miss them – and people have a change to check for themselves ( so I will delete them as I fix them). So come november 6th put all your new findings there! cheers
Looks like more tweekings to the bus network are due to be made on 27th May 2012 – see http://www.timesofmalta.com/articles/view/20120407/local/changes-in-bus-routes-announced.414444 .
thanks – I have had brendan send some details in – and just in time as my map is appearing in the next know-where german tourist guide to malta. Ill be updating over the next ten days or so…
how have things been on the service side?
Does Brendan actually have information of what how each service is changing ? My gut instinct is that we won’t see the full details until a week or so before the changes take place.
As far as I can tell things have settled down but comments on the newspaper websites suggest that there is a lack of discipline amongst some of the staff which is proving difficult to resolve.
I adore the blog site layout . How was it made!? Its very good!
Another set of modifications are due to be introduced tomorrow (11th November 2012) – see http://www.arriva.com.mt/network-changes.
Most are just retimings or suspension of summer service extensions for the winter. However, new service 45 is worthy of note, as is the extension of service 401 (although I am still struggling to work out exactly where Ghemmieri is !).
Thanks Phil – and thanks for the file which appeared in my google docs list. I think (!) Ive picked up those changes which I happened to read in the malta times last week. Certainly added the 401, etc.
Cheers
Although it is still difficult to tell from the Arriva website, I think that you need to make the following additional adjustments:
– Service 33 also calls at Pembroke (after Swieqi) – see http://www.arriva.com.mt/FileBackend.ashx?f=2201 .
– Service 45 runs from Technopark to Mosta via Naaxar (not the same route as service 41) – see http://www.arriva.com.mt/FileBackend.ashx?f=2207 .
– In Marsaskala, service 124 now does the full loop around St.Thomas Bay.
– Service 205 also serves St.Julians after leaving Pembroke, following the service 120 route around St.Georges Bay – see http://www.arriva.com.mt/FileBackend.ashx?f=1794 .
– The map implies that services 202/203 run around St.Georges Bay between Pembroke and St.Julians – they don’t, they runs direct along the Main Road.
– As I understand it, service 401 runs from Wardija to the Bingemma area of l’Mgarr, then to Ghemmieri – I assume that it goes there direct across country and not via Targa Gap or Mosta.
You might also want to take a look at the routing of buses in the l’Mgarr area:
– 38, 44 and 225 all run from Targa Gap to l’Mgarr, where 38 terminates and 44 and 225 continue onto Golden Bay.
– 223/224 do not serve l’Mgarr.
– I suggest that you delete Zebbeigh from your map as I think that it confuses things a bit.
– Bidnija needs moving slightly further north, away from the blue serice 225 line.
Hope this helps
Phil G.
thanks for those – will take a look – cheers
The new map for service 401 is now available here: http://www.arriva.com.mt/FileBackend.ashx?f=2255 – a one hour tour through the middle of no-where !
ok, think thats a few fixes thanks to phil – map should be up in a few minutes…
